Subject: Stop paving L. L. Wallace Road!

Dear friends and colleagues,

I was appalled this past Saturday to discover that Leon County is in the process of essentially paving L. L. Wallace Road through our beloved Apalachicola National Forest. The procedure is called "open-grade cold mix," and I have been assured by highway engineers that it is the same thing as paving. I haven't a clue how the Forest Service has permitted this activity, but I haven't been aware of any public information to that effect. Regardless, it is urgent that the paving be stopped, for the reasons I have outlined in my letter to Forest Supervisor, Marsha Kearney.
So far, only the clay underbase is being delivered. If we work hard and with dilligence, maybe it is not too late to get the Forest Service to stop the proposed action.

I hope you feel as I do about this and are willing to call, fax, or e-mail Marsha Kearney and others to do whatever we can to stop this potential ecological tragedy. Thanks,

--Bruce
